"Myth, then, is the form in which I try to answer when children ask me those fundamental metaphysical questions which come so readily to their minds: "Where did the world come from?" "Why did God make the world?" "Where was I before I was born?" "Where do people go when they die?" Again and again I have found that they seem to be satisfied with a simple and very ancient story, which goes something like this:"There was never a time when the world began, because it goes round and round like a circle, and there is no place on a circle where it begins. Look at my watch, which tells the time; it goes round, and so the world repeats itself again and again. But just as the hour-hand of the watch goes up to twelve and down to six, so, too, there is day and night, waking and sleeping, living and dying, summer and winter. You can't have any one of these without the other, because you wouldn't be able to know what black is unless you had seen it side-by-side with white, orwhite unless side-by-side with black."In the same way, there are times when the world is, and times when it isn't, for if the world went on and on without rest for ever and ever, it would get horribly tired of itself. It comes and it goes. Now you see it;now you don't. So because it doesn't get tired of itself, it always comes back again after it disappears. It's like your breath: it goes in and out, in and out, and if you try to hold it in all the time you feel terrible. It's also like the game of hide-and-seek, because it's always fun to find new ways of hiding, and to seek for someone who doesn't always hide in the same place."God also likes to play hide-and-seek, but because there is nothing outside God, he has no one but himself to play with. But he gets over this difficulty by pretending that he is not himself. This is his way of hiding from himself. He pretends that he is you and I and all the people in the world, all the animals, all the plants, all the rocks, and all the stars. In this way he has strange and wonderful adventures, some of which are terrible and frightening. But these are just like bad dreams, for when he wakes up they will disappear."Now when God plays hide and pretends that he is you and I, he does it so well that it takes him a long time to remember where and how he hid himself. But that's the whole fun of it—just what he wanted to do. He doesn't want to find himself too quickly, for that would spoil the game. That is why it is so difficult for you and me to find out that we are God in disguise, pretending not to be himself. But when the game has gone on long enough, all of us will wake up, stop pretending, and remember that we are all one single Self—the God who is all that there is and who lives for ever and ever."Of course, you must remember that God isn't shaped like a person. People have skins and there is always something outside our skins. If there weren't, we wouldn't know the difference between what is inside and outside our bodies..."~ Alan Watts from "The Book on the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are"

"AUDIO EMBED ABOVE: Two trolls on ham radio, one identified as "G-K," the other as "Robert" or "R-J" overheard accidentally on August 29, 2009, while surfing first responder frequencies during the August 2009 Los Angeles wildfires. The two men argued with each other about various technical subjects of interest to radio ops, then discussed drugs and past jail time, then notes on an Andy Griffith show marathon, then torture they'd like to perform on each other in great detail because they hate each other so much. Stay with it.
Technical note: sorry about the audible LOLs -- a friend held the scanner in their lap, and I held my iPhone 3Gs above the scanner, using "voice memo" app to record the audio. None of us could contain ourselves."

"Cloud Hidden Whereabouts Unknown"

(A place, if it isn't,
that sure looks a lot like Lone Tree)
One of my favorite trails on the
western slope of Mt. Tamalpais near
San Francisco is called Lone Tree.
Five years ago I was living in a town near
there called Stinson Beach in a cabin without
electricity.
I would ride over the mountain on my bicycle
or get a ride up the "hill", as the locals call it,
on the West Marin Stage(a bus) if I was feeling lazy,
to "Pantoll" campground/ ranger station
(Lone Tree starts west of there) and race down into
Mill Valley to do the laundry that was
in my backpack, get supplies, and
be social, as the cabin could seem a little
isolated at times.
I would usually take Lone Tree on my way back
home. The trail was pretty dangerous (especially
with a stuffed 3000 cubic inch internal frame
backpack with an extra compression sack tied on)
The trail is a quasi(?)legal single track that
turned into, in some places, two feet deep ruts
that were difficult to avoid going into. The
incline was so precipitous that it
was difficult to imagine any four wheel drive
vehicle, going the opposite direction, being able
to make the climb.
It was a nice long, pay-off ride down
to highway one, especially if you didn't "stack"
(California-speak for crash). The trail leg alone was
probably twenty plus minutes and once I hit
the road probably another 15 into Stinson
Beach.
I remember only "stacking hard" once. I won't go
into the details of why I wrecked; suffice it to say
that it could have been avoided had I been not doing
the "wrong thing". That's all that needs to be said
about that.

(this footbridge was a few minutes walk from the cabin)
Sometimes I would stay over night
on a friend's futon in Mill Valley
that was out on the
"three season porch" as they call them
in non-Mediterranean climates, that is
connected to the back of his house.
The futon was conveniently located
near my benevolent friends washer and dryer.
Depending on the time of year
there were pears, persimmons, plums or
apricots that I would enjoy in the mornings
before I would head back to the beach,
or before hanging out in the downtown
"square", or heading over to work in
the east bay.

mere tricks of the parlor
hear wrong at sight.
Beyond Belief:
History repeats the old conceits
The glib replies the same defeats
Keep your finger on important issues
With crocodile tears and a pocketful of tissues
I'm just the oily slick
On the windup world of the nervous tick
In a very fashionable hovel
I hang around dying to be tortured
You'll never be alone in the bone orchard
This battle with the bottle is nothing so novel
So in this almost empty gin palace
Through a two-way looking glass
You see your Alice
You know she has no sense
For all your jealousy
In a sense she still smiles very sweetly
Charged with insults and flattery
Her body moves with malice
Do you have to be so cruel to be callous?
And now you find you fit this identikit completely
You say you have no secrets
And then leave discreetly
I might make it Californias fault
Be locked in Genevas deepest vault
Just like the canals of mars and the great barrier reef
I come to you beyond belief
My hands were clammy and cunning
She's been suitably stunning
But I know theres not a hope in Hades
All the laddies cat call and wolf whistle
So-called gentlemen and ladies
Dog fight like rose and thistle
Ive got a feeling
I'm going to get a lot of grief
Once this seemed so appealing
Now I am beyond belief

All Over The Place
Built to Spill In Your Mind
The symptoms of our getting older,
the problems that say we don't mind,
most of us never get over
memories mingled with lies.
Coincidence gave a confession,
that no one's allowed to forget,
I don't want to give the impression
that predestination is set.
And distance will increase the danger,
with certainties never enjoyed.
Regarded as equal yet stranger,
ignored, then embraced, then destroyed.
Observing the process will change it,
afterwards even if you
subconsciously rearrange it,
it doesn't seem any less true.
The remnants of fog disappearing,
and even transcending concern,
disturbing but somehow endearing,
conditioned to never unlearn.
And no one can tell me to listen,
and no one can tell me whats right,
cause nobody has my permission,
and no one can see in your mind,
in your mind, in your mind, in your mind.
The magnifications explore,
there slowly emerges a pattern,
and details you normally ignore,
you notice really what matters.
there isn't a time or a place,
only an ebb and a flowing.
A permanent repeating space,
occurring, connecting, and growing.
And no one can tell me to listen,
and no no one can tell me what's right,
cause nobody has my permission,
and no one can see in your mind,
in your mind, in your mind, in your mind...

A .Pee Dee Eff of Huxley's Heaven And Hell
In "Heaven and Hell" the companion essay to
"The Doors ofPerception"the famous sojourner
of the psyche, Aldous Huxley, refers to the
antipodes of the mind. The metaphor refers to
the regions not normally occupied during "normal"
states of consciousness by the statistically normal
person, so-called. Bringing on the "non-ordinary" states
can be achieved by meditation, mold (taken deliberately
or inadvertently) or by other drugs with psychotropic
effects or an incidental organic imbalance
of the physiology of unknown origin etc (e.g. schizophrenia).
These antipodes can be cast in a brilliant effulgence and
perhaps make manifest nirvana (heaven?) or the ersatz feeling
of the self-realized mind state, or contrariwise, a visit to
these nether regions can, in the case of a "bum trip",
make one feel as though they have entered into hell,
depending on various factors regarding the apprehension
of the inhabitants and objects, according to one's given
perception.~K.

O Shooting Star
Ride the Darker Wave- Sebadoh
Lacking Strength, Beauty hates the Understanding for
asking of her what it cannot do. But the life of spirit
is not the life that shrinks from death and keeps itself
untouched by devastation, but rather the life that endures
it and maintains itself in it. It wins its truth, only when
in utter dismemberment, it finds itself. This tarrying with
the negative is the magical power that converts it into being.
G.W.F. Hegel "Preface" to Phenomenology of Spirit
DEATH
"There stands death, a bluish distillate
in a cup without a saucer. Such a strange
place to find a cup: standing on
the back of a hand. One recognizes clearly
the line along the glazed curve, where the handle
snapped. Covered with dust. And HOPE is written
across the side, in faded Gothic letters.
The man who was to drink out of that cup
read it aloud at breakfast, long ago.
What kind of beings are they then,
who finally must be scared away by poison?
Otherwise would they stay here? Would they keep
chewing so foolishly on their own frustration?
The hard present moment must be pulled
out of them, like a set of false teeth. Then
they mumble. They go on mumbling, mumbling . . .
.................................................
O shooting star
that fell into my eyes and through my body-:
Not to forget you. To endure."

Talking to, and reminding myself here, of course,
paraphrasing a quote I once heard from Joseph Campbell
who once said, "Americans, if given the option to learn
the truth, or attend a lecture on truth, they invariably
attend the lecture."
This most probably applies to nearly everyone.

search and in due course asked Mulla: "Where exactly did you
drop it?"
Mulla answered: "In my house."
"Then why are you looking here?" the man asked.
"There is more light here than in my house," replied Mulla.

One day, one of Mullah Nasrudin's friends came over and
wanted to borrow his donkey for a day or two. Mulla,
knowing his friend, was not kindly inclined to the
request, and came up with the excuse that someone had
already borrowed his donkey. Just as Mullah had uttered
these words, his donkey started braying in his backyard.
Hearing the sound, his friend gave him an accusing look,
to which Mullah replied:"I refuse to have any further
dealings with you since you take the donkey's word over
mine."
paraphrasing a quote I once heard from Joseph Campbell
who once said, "Americans, if given the option to learn
the truth, or attend a lecture on truth, they invariably
attend the lecture."
This most probably applies to nearly everyone.

current one while you’re learning rather than attempt to
fit the new knowledge into your existing model."

There is an ineffable common denominator
in these 80's songs that tend to make me
feel glad all over (well almost all over).
With a few exceptions I didn't actively
listen to or even enjoy most of the songs
on this list when they were current; now,
however, the circumstantial happenings,
or simple zeitgeist associated with them tends to
make me quite fond of them, as well as
even more embarrassing songs
that have been excluded (for now).

"And life is grand
And I will say this at the risk of falling from favor
With those of you who have appointed yourselves
To expect us to say something darker
And love is real
And though I realize this is not a deep observation
To those of you who find it necessary
To conceal love or obscure it, as is the fashion"

"Your Dissappearin' Act, Well, That's an old Standby"
and so is the title and quotes herein;
this hopefully does
not diminish their "meaning" and import...
On a compromised anonymity:
Relying on other's words, admittedly, serves
as bit of a prophylactic, so to say... but may
they serve that purpose, for now at least, as I
find no affinity, at present (if ever anymore)
for the gift (read: illusion) of original thought
and more particularly it's conveyance.
However feebly, half-hearted and ham-fisted
I attempt to force fit the borrowed words the,
perhaps, out of context, ambiguous metaphor here,
coyness- real, feigned or even imagined there,
the cliches, the over-riding lack of structure
throughout, and not to forget the
ambivalence masquerading as a ruse(or visa versa).
I am sure as can be, dear reader, you will not
be able to help taking all of this as you please;
including and possibly especially this admission,
in spite of, or even despite, all the might of a
forced empathy.
With this held (loosely i trust) in mind:
Second Skin The Chameleons
One cold damp evening
The world stood still
I watched as I held my breath
A silhouette I thought I knew
Came through
And someone spoke to me
Whispered in my ear
This fantasy's for you
Fantasies are "in" this year
My whole life passed before my eyes
I thought
What they say is true
I shed my skin and my disguise
And cold, numb and naked
I emerged from my cocoon
And a half remembered tune
Played softly in my head
Then he turned smiling
And said
I realise a miracle is due
I dedicate this melody to you
But is this the stuff dreams are made of?
If this is the stuff dreams are made of
No wonder I feel like I'm floating on air
Everywhere
It feels like I'm everywhere
It's like you fail to make the connection
You know how vital it is
Or when something slips through your fingers
You know how precious it is
Well you reach the point where you know
It's only your second skin"
By Way of A Postscript:
Many times do I consign these weakly held
opinions to the ether with a mere keystroke...

"Went to a doctor, said I look so hard
and with a smile on his face put him into a junkyard
Look for an answer in empty doorways
Talk to a dancer, said it's out on the highway
Well anything could happen
and it could be right now
and the choice is yours
to make it worthwhile
Anything could happen
and it could be right now
and the choice is yours
so make it worthwhile
Well come on doctor, won't you gimme a shot
I'm feeling cold boy, feeling hot
Doctor said no boy you gotta learn
First don't shoot up and then it's your turn
Make the cancellation and I got numb
I haven't the motivation to get myself a gun
Look for an answer in empty doorways
Talk to a dancer, said it's out on the highway
Well here I am in the big city
I got no heart and I got no pity
Can't you see I'm on the run
can't you see I'm not having any fun
Anything could happen
and it could be right now
and the choice is yours
to make it worthwhile
Anything could happen
and it could be right now
and the choice is yours
so make it worthwhile"

"This is an announcement
For the transcendental run
The train now standing
Leaves for higher planes
Due to a derailment
There will be no other train
So why not hop on this one?
Hear the porter's glad refrain
Each carriage is connected
As is every single train
The rails all form a track
Which is a link within a chain
The chain's connected to another chain now
You will need no ticket
If you wish to ride on this train
All aboard the express kundalini
All aboard the express kundalini
All aboard the express kundalini
The song is in your heart
Your heart is in the song
The song is of the earth
The song is of the sky
You are disintegrating
Into everything around
Reintegrating
The worm we dug from higher ground
You have let go of ego
Ego is no longer you
Closer to nirvana
Since the porters whistle blew
All aboard the express kundalini
All aboard the express kundalini
All aboard the express kundalini"

"Lost feelings return
So now maybe I can learn
To stop the world of a lie
This time around
Are we, are we, are we ourselves
Are we, are we, are we ourselves
Because seen through these eyes
We lead a double life
No one would know
So check it out
Stepping out
Here I go
Are we, are we, are we ourselves?
Are we ourselves?
And do we really know?
Most spirit returns
Now maybe we learned
To stop this whirl of a lie
To this earth we are bound I ask you...
Are we, are we, are we ourselves?
Are we ourselves?"

The sentimental fool dont see
Tryin hard to recreate
What had yet to be created once in her life...
But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
Theres nothing at all
But what a fool believes he sees..."

Hey, little girl how long's it been?
The air is thick and you're still thin
My mind is blank so fill me in
What kind of trouble I've got myself in
Black-haired gurl, head full of lies
The truth is all up to you tonight
I read the letters that you sent
Your perfume well won't catch me again
Oooooh, hoooooooo-oh
You don't care 'til you compete
For the affection that you cheat
I read the letters that you sent
Your perfume well won't catch me again
Hey, little girl how long's it been?
